Hello friends and neighbors =) Today I will be doing a track-by-track review on an old record by the infamous Richard D. James under his Caustic Window moniker. It is called Joyrex J5.
Album: Joyrex J5

OVERVIEW
Joyrex J5 is part two of a 4 part series. The sounds on Joyrex
J5 are very similar to those on J4; Think of it as Side B of the two.
All the tracks on this EP remained untitled until the release of
the Joyrex "Compilation" CD in 1998.

ASTROBLASTER
This is one of my favorite tracks in the entire series, because
it's straight to the point, it's high energy, and it's the perfect wake-up
track for any given moment. It's especially useful when you are in need of a
quick alternative to an adrenaline shot. =)
ON THE ROMANCE TIP
It's been speculated that On The Romance Tip is
an anagram for "into machete porn", which makes no damn sense.
Nevertheless, "Romance" seems to be a fitting word to describe this
piece. Just listen to those strings... It's anyone's guess how this was put
together, but I'd rather not think about it, especially if it does, in fact,
involve machete porn.
JOYREX J5
The title track for this EP sounds about as ominous and
futuristic as Joyrex J4, with its unorthodox bass synth riffs, ghost-like
backing melodies and surreal sound effects. Mainly enjoyed by the more
eccentric music lovers.
UNTITLED
This track (known by fans as “R2D2” due to its bleepy tune) was
not included in the 1998 Caustic Window compilation, which is not only sad,
it's unfair. This is one of the best tracks in the series, and there was PLENTY
of room for it on the CD. What the heck, Richard?? Anyway, it's one of my
favorites because of its chirpy sounds and its happy mood. It reminds me of
little critters from old cartoons bouncing around down a main street, full of
energy on a sunny day in the city.
_____________________________________________________________________________
For those who like listening to each Joyrex EP individually, I
might recommend this album above all the others. The variation and intricate
composure of the tracks within put it right beside, if not a step above, the
Joyrex J4 EP, in my most humble opinion.
Thanks for reading, have a great day! =)
